Earlier this year, the newly revitalized WCCA Youth Club—led by a passionate team of 10 youth aged 14–17—hosted its first major event with resounding success.
With support from the Youth Creativity Fund, the group collaborated with the Waterloo Regional Police Service to deliver a free Internet Safety & Cybersecurity Workshop, attended by over 70 youth and parents.
Held at WRPS’s North Division, the event featured interactive presentations on topics like scams, phishing, AI risks, digital footprints, and safe internet habits.
“We were excited to see so many members of our community engage in this important conversation,” said Aileen, one of the student leaders.
The Youth Creativity Fund played a vital role in making the event welcoming and accessible, covering costs for decorations, snacks, prizes, and educational materials.
The WCCA Youth Club is part of the Waterloo Region Chinese Canadian Association’s long-standing commitment to empowering local youth.
With plans to expand their programming to include craft nights, study sessions, civic engagement workshops, and intergenerational volunteer activities, the team is focused on building leadership and life skills within the Chinese Canadian community.
Their outreach strategy includes multilingual communications on platforms like WeChat and Instagram (@wccayouth), and efforts to secure accessible venues like public libraries and parks to continue offering inclusive, youth-driven events.
Their next event is already in the works—and with momentum building, Aileen and the WCCA Youth Club are just getting started.
